Reservations must be made by April 5, 2014 to ensure room availability and attendees receive the conference room rate.

When making reservations by phone, conference attendees must mention they are with the FABTO Educational Conference to receive the conference room rate.

To qualify for tax-exempt status, you will need to supply the hotel with a copy of the city/county tax-exempt certificate when you check in and pay with a city or county check or credit card. A personal check or credit card, to be reimbursed by your agency, does not qualify for tax-exempt status.

PLEASE BE SURE TO MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATION PRIOR TO SUBMITTING A ROOM DEPOSIT PAYMENT TO THE HOTEL.

Please submit completed registrations to the FABTO Conference Registrar at the address indicated on the bottom of the registration form. Registration fees for the 2014 FABTO Educational Conference are as follows.

Registrations received prior to April 2nd, 2014
-FABTO Member - $245.00
-Single day re-certification - $200.00

-Non-member - $285.00

Registrations received on or after April 2nd, 2014
-FABTO Member - $270.00
-Single day re-certification - $225.00

DON'T FORGET...The FABTO conference "Meet and Greet Reception" provides an excellent opportunity to exchange information, discuss ideas and network with fellow business tax professionals from around the state. Be sure to plan on attending this years "Meeet and Greet" which will be held in the evening on Tuesday May 6, 2014.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarship applications for the conference registration fee will be available from your chapter president and must be submitted to the chapter for review at least 90 days prior to the conference.

Scholarships will be based on available funds at the chapter and state levels and first time applicants will receive priority. The following items will be taken into consideration:

- You must be a paid member of FABTO at present and for at least one previous year;
- Attend 60% or more chapter meetings;
- Service to FABTO (Officer, Board of Directors, Committees, etc. at the chapter or state level;
- Applicant's efforts to obtain financing from their agency.

fabto STATEWIDE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
FABTO's commitment is to the education of business tax professionals working within local governments throughout Florida to ensure the proper administration and collection of Local Business Taxes.

The FABTO Statewide Certification Program was instituted as one of the many tools FABTO utilizes to accomplish this educational goal. FABTO encourages all of its members to participate in the program and looks forward to providing members the educational oppootunities needed in order to obtain certification and remain educated on all details regarding Local Business Taxes in Florida.


CERTIFICATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

FAU/IOG CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION - Level I:
This Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificate is issued by the Florida Atlantic University Institute of Government and will be awarded upon attendance at a FABTO Annual Educational Conference and will reflect the number of educational hours attended at said conference.

CERTIFIED BUSINESS TAX OFFICIAL (CBTO) - Level II:
This certificate will be awarded after the member has met the following requirements:

- Completion of the FS 205 class at the first conference attended.
- Passing a written test on Chapter 205 of the Florida Statutes.
- Receiving two (2) FAU/IOG Certificates of Completion indicating attendance at least two (2) entire state conferences.*

*In order for the conference attendance requirement to be met for those receiving certification as a Certified Business Tax Official for the first time, the member must attend all the sessions of two (2) entire conferences within three (3) consecutive conferences.

An entire conference for the purpose of certification as a Certified Business Tax Official will be defined as all sessions beginning with the FS 205 Class and ending on the last session of the conference for the first year and all sessions of the conference for the second year. However, in the second year, attendance at the FS 205 class will not be required.

Certification at the Certified Business Tax Official (CBTO) level will expire at the conclusion of the FABTO Annual Educational Conference three years from the issue date.

RE-CERTIFICATION - CERTIFIED BUSINESS TAX OFFICIAL (CBTO):
Re-certification requires attendance at one full day of any annual conference within three (3) consecutive conferences. For purposes of re-certification "one full day" is defined as a minimum of a full single days conference attendance at a conference. For clarification a "full single day" excludes attendance at the opening and closing half days of the conference.

Re-certifications will expire at the end of the month three years from the issue date.

Should an extenuating circumstance arise causing a member to be unable to meet the re-certification conference attendance requirements, the expiration date of any certification or re-certification may be extended by the Board of Directors. These extensions will be considered by the Board of Directors on a case by case basis and must be requested by the member in writing, accompanied by a letter from the member's employer explaining the circumstances. Any extension granted will be for one time, one year only.

SENIOR BUSINESS TAX OFFICIAL (SBTO) - Level III:
This certificate will be awarded after the member has met the following requirements.

- Receiving certification as a Certified Business Tax Official (CBTO).
- Attending at least five (5) state conferences.*
- At least two (2) years service on a FABTO State or Local Chapter board or committee.*

*Once the conference attendance requirements for the CBTO level have been met, the additional three (3) years conference attendance for certification at the SBTO level will be defined as a minimum of a full single days conference attendance at each of three (3) conferences. For clarification a "full single day" excludes attendance at the opening and closing half days of the conference. These additional three years of conference attendance do not have to be consecutive. Board or committee membership can be cumulative.

MASTER BUSINESS TAX OFFICIAL (MBTO) - Level IV:
This certificate will be awarded after the member has met the following requirements.

- Receiving certification as a Senior Business Tax Official (SBTO).
- Attending at least seven (7) state conferences*.
- At least four (4) years service on the FABTO State Board or committee or at least six (6) years service on a Local Chapter board or committee or the combined service equivalent.*

*Once the conference attendance requirements for the CBTO level have been met the additional five (5) years conference attendance for certification at the MBTO level will be defined as a minimum of a full single days conference attendance at each of five (5) conferences. For clarification a "full single day" excludes attendance at the opening and closing half days of the conference. These additional five years of conference attendance do not have to be consecutive. Board or committee memberships can be cumulative.

Note: It shall be the responsibility of the member to request certification and provide written proof of eligibility. The State Board of Directors reserves the right to grant certification of any level to a member upon a majority vote of the state board. Individuals must be a current paid member of FABTO in order to receive certification at any level.
